It’s a confusing time to be a Wrexham fan. Are we out of the woods or have we just entered a new forest? The club is debt free, apparently, although the reality is that the debt is now leveraged against the holding company, and the players have allegedly not been paid. A multimillionaire owns us, in an admittedly convoluted structure, yet we’re picking up CCJ’s for £270. We’re sitting on a ‘recession proof’ development, with planning consent (controversially) granted, which is expected to net in excess of £30 million, yet loyal (and low paid) staff are getting laid off left, right, and centre. Are we rich? Are we poor? Will we see any of the development money ourselves, or will it be siphoned off whilst the club is left high and dry, sans assets? Do we own our ground, or are we tenants? Is there a section 106 agreement in place, or isn’t there? Do local businessmen done good, or property developers who will screw us to the floor, own us? Asset strippers or saviours? And why does the club take such an antagonistic line with supporters and supporters' groups alike? Who f*cking knows.
What I do know is that this is further proof that local, community based football and raw free market capitalism make strange and disturbing, if common, bedfellows.
Anyway, to help shed some light on the situation at the mighty Town, I have re-produced below a diagram, posted on Red Passion by our very own answer to Roger Cook, Welshwayne. Good work sir.
